Departing Manchester in the dark and arriving amidst the first rays of sunlight from a delicate autumn sun, the city of Edinburgh is exceptional from its first moment. Stepping outside the train station, you have entered one of Scotland's richest world heritage sites with over 4,500 listed buildings.
Having only planned my route to and from Edinburgh, journeying around the city would remain a spontaneous mystery. However it would not take me long to grasp the bearings of Britain’s second wealthiest city, and it can be this simple for anyone. Edinburgh Waverley train station is planted right at the heart of the city. Beneath the North bridge that joins Edinburgh’s old town with the new, this set up can be used to help aid planning the day's movements and activities. Edinburgh is a city of mesmerising views, various bold architectural masterpieces and whimsical pockets of greenery. From the famous Edinburgh Castle surrounded by the medieval streets of Edinburgh's old town across the river to the neoclassical new town, Edinburgh forms it's distinct and enchanting character. Photographs will be magnificent and still won’t give justice to this wondrous city. Live street entertainment will keep crowds buzzing through the late afternoon and Edinburgh’s many cashmere boutiques will have you leaving with a traditional Scottish tartan scarf paired with a matching tam hat. As the afternoon sun battles with coming nightfall choose to sit at a bench on the Edinburgh parklands that runs through the very centre of the city. Excited tourists and passionate locals stride through the surrounding medieval streets and the stirring sounds from a Scottish bagpipe echoes around the city. Autumn leaves fall to the ground as winter nears but the spirit is high, the energy has continued on from summer, it is a celebration all year round in Edinburgh. Anthony Piovesan explores

My next day trip scheduled for October 8, 2015. Edinburgh, Scotland Departure time: 6:14am Expected arrival time: 9:37am Chester, not one of the first few cities that comes to mind when considering a trip to England, but this charming English township is a memorable place to spend the day. For an inexperienced traveller, Chester was not only a friendly town but it was incredibly simple to roam around and see all the major attractions. Being a Roman town Chester still has its famous City Walls, which in the past shielded the town from external forces, but today takes on a recreational use guiding tourists and locals through a complete and scenic circuit of the city centre. Offering panoramic views of Chester's remarkable black and white revival architecture and overlooking the cities many canals and streams, the walls are a perfect route around Chester. Stray away from the main path to discover a pocket of Chester while returning to the Walls continuing your journey. Chester is a city of charm and soul, dancing through the pebbled streets and wafting through the autumn air, there is an energy throughout this city which needs to be discovered, experienced and cherished.
