Day 4:
On top of Paris Reaching 300 metres into the Parisian sky, the Tour Eiffel looms majestically over the capital of France. From the summit you can see a wave of cream coloured buildings separated by large roundabouts and major roads. Buildings stretch as far as the eye can see, the River Seine glistens beneath the morning sun, camera's click repetitively, but it takes more than a lens to appreciate the enormity and beauty of Paris from such a unique vantage point. A first Christmas away from home, nestled deep within the festive spirit of Paris it is time to experience Christmas solo, in a different city, in a foreign country and in a faraway continent. Joyeaux Noel!
Day three:
Palace of Versailles Stepping back in time and scouring the royal history of France, Versailles is a vast kingdom of stunning architecture and mysterious botanical gardens. Bursting with colour and lights, streets are full of Parisians and tourists preparing for Christmas day festivities. Shops are brimming with customers on the hunt for fresh produce, Christmas lights hang over the cobble-stoned streets, and as Christmas day dawns church doors begin to open for midnight mass.
The second stop in a three week trip to Belgium, France and London over Christmas and New Years. Bruges, Belgium: December 18 until December 24, 2015 Paris, France: December 24 until January 2, 2016 London, England: January 2 until January 7, 2016 .Day five:
Day trip to Ghent A city of colourful buildings, gothic architecture and quaint canals, Ghent is a small countryside city with a vibrant centre. Ghent offers a taste of the busy Brussels lifestyle, while providing an insight into the routines of Belgium's smaller cities. Day four:
Exploring the capital, Brussels Enormous, bustling and aesthetically magnificent, Brussels is a beautiful city to visit around Christmas. Despite the national terror alert being raised to the highest level and soldiers with machine guns strapped around their shoulders patrolling the main streets, the festive season has taken over. Restaurants and stores hang ornaments from their windows, street entertainment features classical Christmas carols and the immaculate Grand Place puts on a light show at dusk, transforming Europe's favourite square into a frenzy of colour and cheer. |
