The Australian government has reacted to the executions of Sukumaran (SUK-U-MAR-AN) and Chan by recalling its ambassador from Jakarta, adding to the tensions between the two nations. With the Australian government’s decision to recall it’s ambassador from Jarkata, tensions between the two nations have entered a difficult phase. But the ambassador says the media can help narrow these concerns. “We value the significant role of the media in helping to narrow the gap in misunderstanding between the two peoples and to pursue the common interests of Australia and Indonesia”. STEPHEN ELLIS PIOVESAN FRI 15/5/15 12:30PM DURATION: 0:34 A senior staffer for communications minister Malcolm Turnbull has appeared in court this morning under charges of drug possession and public indecency. Stephen Ellis was caught with the drugs at Canberra Airport on Thursday. He’s also being charged with possessing a drug of dependency and a prohibited substance. Ellis was released on bail and is due to reappear in court on the 5th of June. The Prime Minister refused to comment on the situation saying it was a personal and private matter for the courts to deal with. “Look, it's a personal matter, it's a private matter and I don't propose to comment on something which is almost certainly coming before the courts.” GRAVES STOLEN PIOVESAN FRI 22/5/15 12:00PM DURATION: 0:23 Forty-eight (48) plaques have been stolen from a Frankston cemetery last week, causing an estimated damage bill of twenty-four thousand dollars ($24,000). Police say despite only being able to get about ten (10) dollars for each plaque, there are fears they could be sold for scrap metal. It’s believed fifteen (15) of the forty-eight (48) defaced graves belong to Australian war veterans. PETER GRESTE PIOVESAN FRI 22/5/15 12:00PM DURATION: 0:22 Australian journalist Peter Greste says he could still be convicted with terrorism charges in Egypt. The Australian says that despite being back on home soil, he continues to be named at his colleagues' retrial and could be convicted if he fails to front those hearings. Greste has offered to give evidence via video link to avoid conviction.
